Open Water Season Has Come to an End — What’s Next on DanKirkOutdoors?
As the last leaves fall and the temperatures dip here in Wisconsin, another open-water season officially comes to a close. It’s always a little bittersweet to pull the boat for the final time, but honestly… that’s part of the rhythm of Midwest angling. We fish hard all spring, summer, and fall, and then we pivot into an entirely different season filled with new challenges, new gear, and plenty of opportunities for big fish stories.

Before we dive into winter content, make sure you swing over to the Picture Page on my website. I’ve updated it with fresh photos, trip stats, memorable catches, and a few behind-the-scenes shots that didn’t make it into the videos. If you fished along with me all season—either on-screen or in your own boat—you’ll enjoy seeing how the year wrapped up.
Now, even though I don’t guide on the ice, that doesn’t mean things slow down on the channel. Far from it! Winter in Wisconsin is its own adventure, and every year I share:
❄️ Ice Fishing Videos: https://www.youtube.com/@justgofish
From the Fox River to Winnebago backwaters and beyond, I’ll be out exploring early ice, mid-winter patterns, and late-season action. You’ll see what’s working, what’s not, and what surprises show up on the end of the line.
🧊 Ice Gear & Product Spotlights
Expect hands-on looks at shelters, heaters, electronics, tackle, rods, reels, safety tools, and new innovations. If it helps you catch more fish—or stay warm doing it—I’ll cover it, maybe. Let me know if you have a product you want me to test out.
📍 Ice Conditions Updates
One of the most-requested pieces of winter content. I’ll share ice thickness reports, pressure cracks, access updates, and general safety notes from the lakes and rivers I check throughout the season.
Open-water may be over, but the excitement definitely isn’t. If anything, winter brings out a whole new kind of community on the ice—and I’m excited to take you along for the ride.
Thanks for being part of the DanKirkOutdoors family. Bundle up, stay safe, and get ready for another great ice fishing season. Just Go Fish! 🎣❄️
